To learn more about our design philosophy and team culture, we encourage you to visit our [Design Blog](link to design blog - please insert actual link).As a Product Designer, you will collaborate closely with a distributed team of engineers, marketers, and customer support specialists to create products that democratize online publishing and commerce. This is a fully remote opportunity for a talented designer passionate about crafting impactful user experiences.
What you’ll do
- End-to-End Product Design: Own the design process from initial concept through development and post-launch optimization, ensuring a cohesive and exceptional user experience.
- Rapid Prototyping & Iteration: Actively create and iterate on prototypes across various levels of fidelity, using insights from user research, market analysis, and business objectives to inform design decisions.
- Effective Communication: Communicate design concepts and rationale clearly and frequently through written, verbal, and visual presentations to foster team alignment and facilitate smooth implementation.
- Engineer Collaboration: Work closely and iteratively with engineers to ensure the feasibility and high-quality execution of designs.
- Community Contribution: Contribute not only to Automattic's products but also to the broader open-source and design communities through sharing knowledge and best practices.
What we’re looking for
- Relevant Experience: Demonstrated past work experience relevant to Automattic's ecosystem, such as designing consumer products, working remotely, contributing to or using WordPress, designing for e-commerce platforms, site editors, etc.
- User-Centricity: A strong passion for identifying user needs, defining clear and effective design solutions, and delivering those solutions through meticulous design specifications.
- Design Flexibility: The ability to adapt your design approach, working efficiently in both low-fidelity sketching and high-fidelity mockups, choosing the most appropriate process for the task at hand.
- Feedback Integration & Iteration: Proven ability to effectively integrate feedback, validate design assumptions through testing, and iterate on products while considering customer feedback, community contributions, and insights from our support teams.
- Strategic Alignment: The capacity to understand and align design solutions with business strategies and technical constraints to deliver exceptional user experiences within those parameters.
- Excellent Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, essential for collaborating with a global team and presenting your work clearly and persuasively in written formats.
- Tool Proficiency: Mastery of design and prototyping tools (we primarily use Figma) and a solid understanding of product development cycles.
- Strong Visual & UI Skills: A compelling portfolio showcasing strong user interface (UI) and visual design skills, demonstrating your craft through both written explanations and visual examples.
- Remote Work Adaptability: Familiarity with the principles and practices of remote work (or a strong enthusiasm and willingness to embrace it).
