Description
Yellow Brick Games is seeking a talented Technical Artist with a focus on graphics and look development to join our team. In this role, you’ll work alongside the art, design and programming teams to ensure our game world delivers stunning visuals, from lighting and materials to shaders and overall visual fidelity.Responsibilities
- Graphics & Look Development: Collaborate with the art, design and programming teams to bring the game’s visual style to life by focusing on the graphical aspects of the game world, including lighting, materials, shaders, and textures while adhering to technical constraints.
- Look Development: Ensure that the game world’s overall look matches the artistic direction, from the realism of environments, characters and props to ensuring consistency across various scenes and lighting conditions.
- Shader & Material Creation: Develop and implement high-quality shaders and materials to meet the aesthetic and technical requirements of the game, enhancing the visual appeal and realism of assets and environments.
- Optimization for Graphics & Debugging: Profile and optimize content for performance and scalability, ensuring that the game runs smoothly on all target platforms without sacrificing visual quality.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Address any graphical issues that arise during production, providing solutions that align with both the technical performance requirements and artistic vision.
- Technical Documentation: Produce clear, thorough documentation for workflows, tools, and best practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technical Artist with a focus on graphics and look development in video game production.
- Strong understanding of lighting systems and physically-based rendering (PBR).
- Experience optimizing graphics for real-time performance, balancing visual fidelity and frame rate across multiple platforms.
- Familiarity with industry-standard art tools (e.g., Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Maya or 3ds Max and Photoshop).
- Ability to translate artistic vision into technical solutions that ensure visual consistency and quality throughout the game.
- Solid understanding of graphical pipelines, asset integration, and rendering systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments (art, design, engineering).
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s Niagara system, Blueprints and Material Editor.
- Experience with advanced graphics techniques such as real-time ray tracing, dynamic lighting, and post-processing effects.
- Knowledge of scripting or programming (e.g., Python, C++, or MEL) to improve workflows and art tools.
- A keen eye for detail and a passion for high-quality, visually compelling games.
- Advanced Shader programming (HLSL/GLSL).
